FITIS Conducts ICT Career Guidance Program for Secondary School Students
The Federation of IT Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS) organized an ICT Career Guidance Program for Secondary School Students and Career Seekers supported by Information and Communication Technology Agency Sri Lanka (ICTA), Ministry of Education (MOE) and SLASSCOM parallel to Sri Lanka’s largest ICT Exhibition, Infotel 2014, on 24th Oct 2014.
Objective of the ICT Career Guidance program was to promote ICT among school children and career seekers in order to achieve the national objective of achieving 75% ICT literacy and to promote the use of Information technology and ICT career opportunities among Secondary School Students. Further, this program enabled to create awareness among the students and the general public, of the developments in technology and its applications in everyday life, opportunities for business and for employment and Careers in ICT.
FTITS believes that building a knowledge society will contribute immensely for national prosperity and there is a great opportunity to guide youth to capture the opportunities presented by new developments in information and communication technology (ICT). Hence the inclusion of the career awareness program as a parallel activity of the exhibition will generate greater results in the long term to enhance the much needed ICT human resource capacity in the country.
The program attracted over 5,000 School Children and Teachers and the participant were exposed to a comprehensive career guidance program focused on broadening their visions from traditional jobs to global careers in Information Technology (IT) and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO).
The program was conducted by key professionals in the IT-BPO field in collaboration with ICTA and SLASSCOM.
