SLT bags Award for Overall Winner at Infotel 2014 Awards
At the end of the second day of the exhibition INFOTEL Night 2014 was held in full glamour at the Nuga Sevena BMICH. The audience entered a galaxy setting firing through to a Smart IT Galaxy in keeping with the theme of the event – For a Smarter Tomorrow “ . The Sri Lanka Telecom bagged the Overall winner award with SALA Enterprises winning the runner up award. Deputy Minister of Telecommunications and IT Hon Prabha Ganeshan was the Chief Guest with distinguished invitees from the industry, government and all stakeholders – Partners and Sponsors and Exhibitors.
The stall competition was conducted under an expert panel of judges namely Dr Dileepa De Silva Chairman of APICTA, Mr Gamika De Silva – Immediate Past President of SLIM, Ch QS Nishantha Wickramasinghe – Chairman Institute of Quantity Surveyors Sri Lanka , Dr Rohan Karunaratna – President, Institute of Builders, and Mr. Ruwan Amarasekera – Hony Secretary BCS Sri Lanka Section , who selected awardees of the 06 categories as follows –
Most Creative Stall – won by C3 Labs and ARIMAC Lanka as runner up ;
Most Innovative Product/ Solution on Display – won by Sri Lanka Telecom PLC and Hi – Fi Center – De Bug as runner up;
Stall with Best Demonstration won by SALA Enterprises and Redline Technologies as runner up
Stall with Best Display won by Sri Lanka Telecom PLC and Gateway Institute as runner up

IT businesses showcased hardware and devices, Software applications and solutions, mobile computing, cloud computing and many other emerging technologies , together with Institutes, Universities , Government Agencies , Armed Forces , Technical Centers and Schools participating in over 200 stalls. Special hits at the exhibition were the IT Museum where a legendary collection of IT pieces were on display dating back to 1940. The stall attracted a packed audience of both young and old. 1st generation vacuum tubes and components, Transistors and ICs of the 2nd generation, Commodore desktop computers – CBM 4032, CRT multimedia projectors weighing 200 lbs , RLA Photofone film projectors were some of the products showcased .
The Student Innovation Pavilions run by tertiary students of Universities of Colombo School of Computing , Ruhuna, Uva Welassa and Moratuwa , secondary Students from International and national schools – finalist of the Young Computer Scientists 2014 , and students from Vocational Training Centers of the Vocational Training Authority of Sri Lanka showcased their award winning projects in this special pavilion .
The Center for Research and Development , Ministry of Defence, Sri Lanka Air Force and Sri Lanka Police – CCTV and Media
show cased their Rand D products and how they are used in military and civil operations such as hologram technology, GPS Jammers, Forensics, combatting hacking , threats of free wi fi , monitoring criminal and accidents using CCTV and many such techniques.
A special program for ICT career seekers was conducted with the support of ICT Agency, SLASSCOM and the Ministry of Education bringing in over 5000 students and ICT teachers to eight hourly sessions of Career guidance workshops specially designed to stress the importance of ICT and to direct future generation to a healthy information society. The sessions were held in parallel to the exhibition. Students and Teachers from National, International & Private Schools and other Institutes were present. Students from Ruhunu-pura IT Training School, VTA and NAITA and secondary students from Gampaha, Moratuwa, Hanwella, Kotahena, Negambo, Horana and from Colombo attended these seminars.

Over 15,000 visitors who came in to view Infotel 2014 experienced a vast and varied display of technology, solutions and gadgetry at this mega event which concluded on 26th October 2014.
