FITIS: Building a Competitive Advantage for Sri Lanka Through a Thriving Digital Ecosystem

The Federation of Information Technology Industry of Sri Lanka (FITIS) stands as a cornerstone of the nation’s digital transformation, uniting the ICT industry to drive Sri Lanka toward a dynamic and competitive future. At this pivotal moment, FITIS is poised to harness the power of Artificial Intelligence, champion digital inclusion, and build smart infrastructure, laying the foundation for Sri Lanka to change its economic growth trajectory through digital innovation. FITIS is firmly committed to advancing the national goal of achieving a USD 15 billion digital economy by 2030—a core component of the government’s DigiEcon 2030 vision. With seven specialised chapters covering every facet of the ICT ecosystem, FITIS is uniquely equipped to lead this transformation. The Infrastructure Chapter will develop the essential backbone; the Software, Digital Services, and Telecommunications Chapters will drive modernisation through innovative solutions; the ICT Education and Training Chapter will build a future-ready workforce; and the Professional Chapter will provide critical expertise on security, compliance, and integration.

To accelerate progress and deepen impact, FITIS will focus on five strategic pillars:

● Organisational Strength: Empowering the secretariat and expanding membership to better serve the companies that form the heart of the industry.
● Member Empowerment: Creating new opportunities through closer collaboration with government agencies and regional industry bodies, while strengthening industry networking and representation
● Government Collaboration: Supporting national policy and digital priorities through advocacy, expertise, and aligned initiatives. This includes support for effective e-government rollout and balanced technology regulation.
● Industry Advancement: Championing innovation and international visibility through flagship platforms such as INFOTEL, API Asia, DEX Awards, YCS and DigiGo, while also promoting entrepreneurship, SME digitisation, and export-ready innovation.
● Practical Partnerships: Bringing together public and private stakeholders to create solutions with real-world impact. FITIS will also deepen regional cooperation through active participation in platforms such as ASOCIO and APICTA.

Sri Lanka has the power to transform its growth trajectory by equipping its highly literate population with digital skills and creating a digitally enabled economy. FITIS understands the urgency of this moment and is prepared to lead with focus, collaboration, and results. By strategically leveraging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence—not just adopting but adapting them to our context—Sri Lanka can build unique digital advantages and differentiate itself globally. Through initiatives such as policy advocacy, digital skilling programmes, and industry innovation platforms, FITIS aims to create a digital ecosystem that reflects our national strengths and unlocks long-term prosperity. FITIS invites all stakeholders—across government, industry, and academia—to join in building a digitally empowered Sri Lanka: one that thrives on innovation, inclusivity, and global competitiveness.
